The Staff Accountant is responsible for day-to-day accounting functions for all retail, office, hospitality, and multi-family properties owned by Company. The Staff Accountant is also responsible for identifying potential process and control improvements to the Controller.
Roles & Responsibilities:
Perform all general ledger responsibilities for assigned properties in a timely fashion. The responsibilities include reviewing the monthly revenues and expenses, preparing any accruals that are needed, producing the month-end P&L and balance sheet and reconciling all balance sheet accounts. Ensure invoices for properties are entered and processed accurately and timely. Prepare account reconciliations for all balance sheet accounts, report any deposit discrepancies immediately to management, and assist in resolution of issues.
Assist in the preparation of the monthly reporting package to owners. Work closely with asset/property management team to ensure timely and insightful analysis of property operating expenses.
Monitor property cash accounts recommending distributions to owners and forecasting any anticipated deficits.
Prepare the annual budget for assigned properties projecting the annual revenues and assist asset/property management to project the expenses and forecast capital improvements for the property. Work with property management to ensure timely billing of annual common area maintenance, insurance and property tax reconciliations. Interact with the leasing team to determine lease timing and any tenant improvement or leasing commission capital outlays in the year.
Prepare the quarterly and annual financial consolidation for Company that is distributed to existing lenders and potential and potential commercial and institutional investors.
Assist the Controller in the completion of annual property tax work papers and the review (and appeal if necessary) of property tax appraisal assessments
Assist with all portfolio and development financial presentations to potential investors and lenders
Perform ad hoc analyses as needed.
Skills and Experience Required:
Ideal candidate will possess an undergraduate accounting degree and have 6-8 years of experience working in a fast paced environment preferably with real estate or property experience. Yardi experience is desirable although not required. Need high energy, can do attitude and experience working in a roll up your sleeves environment. CPA certification would be a plus.
